EMT-Basic Training
 


Goals and Objectives

The EMT-Basic course is designed to prepare a student to become licensed as an EMT-Basic. The EMT-Basic is the minimum licensure required to work on an ambulance in the State of Missouri. This curriculum includes skills necessary for the individual to provide basic emergency medical care in accordance with the NHTSA NSC. Specifically, after successful completion of the program, the student will be capable of performing the following functions at the minimum entry level:

It is obvious that EMT-Basics provide a service in an environment requiring special skills and knowledge. They also serve as liaisons with other emergency services. This course provides an introduction to these concepts. Individual orientation to the specific systems and services with which the EMT-Basic will be affiliated is necessary to achieve a full level of competency with in a specific organization.

The EMT-Basic course will consist of classroom lectures, practical evolutions, and clinical learning experiences. The EMT-Basic Course is a fast paced program that will require the student be committed to a significant amount of studying outside the classroom setting. Students must regularly attend classes and a strict attendance policy will be enforced. Students are also expected to conduct themselves with the highest degree of professionalism.

Admission

Those persons seeking admission to the EMT-Basic course of instruction must comply with the following requirements.

  1. Must complete an application for admission.

  2. Must be eighteen years of age.

  3. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent prior to the beginning of the course.

National Registry

At the end of the EMT-Basic course, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Examination for EMT-Basics. This test is required for those students seeking Missouri Licensure.
