NHTSA estimates that 11,088 lives were saved in 1998 by the use of safety belts.

In, 1998 it is estimated that 299 children under age five were saved as a result of child restraint use.
If all passenger vehicle occupants over age four wore safety belts, 20,355 lives (that is an additional 9,267) could have been saved in 1998. crash7a.jpg (9076 bytes)
crash7b.jpg (10676 bytes) In 1998, 42 percent of passenger car occupants and 48 percent of light truck occupants involved in fatal crashes were unrestrained.
